Did you Know?

Did you know that the number of missing and abducted children is on the rise in the United States and around the globe? It is becoming a big problem and the Masonichip program is designed to assist in the efforts of Law Enforcement and government agencies to help minimize the numbers.

  • As of 1999 there were 113, 400 missing children from the ages of 6-11
  • About 100 abducted children are murdered each year!
  • In 1999 there were over 797,500 children reported missing

Unfortunately 1999 was the last time any nationwide formal studies were conducted to get a handle on this growing issue.

The good news is that The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reports that

"Masonichip is one of the most comprehensive Child Recovery and Indentification Programs in the Nation!"

Don't let your child become a statistic, arm yourself with the right tools from Masonichip!

What is MasoniCHIP?

MasoniCHIP is one of the most comprehensive Child Recovery, Identification and Abduction Awareness Education programs offered “at no cost - free of charge” to parents in North America.

MasoniCHIP EVENTS are being sponsored on an ever-increasing level by the Freemason Grand Lodges in the jurisdictions of the United States and Provinces of Canada. In February 2004, the Conference of Grand Masters of Masons in North America met in Washington D.C. and authorized the creation of a new standing committee, the MASONIC CHIP SUPPORT Committee, to encourage and assist Masonic Grand Lodges to engage in “Comprehensive Masonic Child Identification Programs”.

At a MasoniCHIP EVENT, Freemasons set up the equipment and enlist the volunteers necessary to generate individual completed child identification packages that are given to a child’s parent or guardian to take home for safe keeping (we keep nothing but a permission form). It is the responsibility of the parents to then provide the package to law enforcement, if their child becomes missing, as an aid to recover their child. Each child progresses through the several stations of the Event (it takes about 10-15minutes) generating an identifying item at each station and placing them in his or her package. Parents are reminded to take the package with them on trips and vacations (it does no good leaving it home) as it can be immediately provided to authorities to aid in the recovery of a child that is missing or presumed abducted.

Our mission .....assist our Masonic Grand Lodges to conduct MasoniCHIP Events in our communities so that any parent wanting their children to receive this “free comprehensive service” will find it regularly offered.

Thereby raising public awareness concerning the risk of abduction or exploitation our children now face in today’s society. MasoniCHIP Events provide parents with a Completed ID Package of identifying items generated at the event (NOT a blank KIT to be filled out at home) of their child that contains vital identifying items to be given to law enforcement if their child is missing. MASONIC CHIP EVENTS also serve as an opportunity to educate both children and their parents about Abduction Prevention and other safety information.

We continue our collaboration with the Natl Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and proud that our efforts are recognized by NCMEC and that we receive their strong support. Other national non-profit organizations we are collaborating with include the American Dental Association (ADA), and Canines For Kids, Inc. (CFKI)

New this year is the collaboration we started with the General Federation of Woman's Clubs who have asked all their Junior Woman's Clubs to become active in their communities with Child Identification Programs like ours.

MasoniCHIP Defined

We are the MasoniCHIP Support Committee (MCSC) of the Conference of Grand Masters of Masons in North America (CGMNA). An umbrella under which all Masonic Grand Lodge Jurisdictions engaged in Masonic Child Identification Programs gather to share "Best Practices" and disseminate information. The elements listed below are examples of aspects our divesified individual programs share in common. These aspects set our MasoniCHIP initiatives above all others, no matter what identifying items each individual jurisdiction decides to generate or the equipment each employs to do it.

MasoniCHIP is established and recognized as one of the most comprehensive child recovery, identification, and abduction awareness education programs in North America. Twenty (22) of our Masonic Grand Lodge jurisdictions are reported to be currently engaged in child identification programs. We were recognized by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in 2004. Our close collaboration with them and oour distribution of their "Safe Kids" printed materials at MasoniCHIP Events earned us the 2007 "Special Award of Commendation" presented to us in Portland Oregon one year ago.

We encourage all our jurisdictions to consider start-up and consider implementing as many of these attributes into their existing child identification programs as their resources will allow.

Elements Attributed to MasoniCHIP:

  • A signed permission form is required to participate in the program, is retained by the Freemasons, and its information is not be given out to anyone or used for any reason.
  • Events are offered, "At No Cost to Parents" so that anyone wanting their child to participate in the Event can do so, provided they sign a permission form before engaging in the Event.
  • All identifying items generated at MasoniCHIP Events are the sole property of the child's parent or guardian, are placed in an ID packs and given to parents to take home for safe keeping in case the need arises to give law enforcement items to help find a missing child.
  • No information of identified children is to be retained, (except the permission form held by the Masonic Grand Lodge) by any organization or agency involved.
  • Events consist of Masons setting up equipment and enlisting volunteers necessary to generate individual Completed Child ID Packages that contain identifying items. These items are vital to law enforcement agencies in the recovery and identification of missing children, and aid in the prosecution of perpetrators.

Identifying Items Include:

  • Fingerprints and physical descriptions card.
  • Digital Still Photograph campatible with local Amber Alert requiremqnts for ease of dissemination.
  • Brief recorded interview on VHS video tape or CD/DVD disc that shows the child’s mannerisms, speech pattern and provides details on places they frequent.
  • Dental impression generated by qualified volunteers (using Toothprints® wafer) provides a 3-dimentional dental record that can be used for identification.
  • DNA sample can be generated from Saliva and cheek skin cells accumulated on the Toothprints® wafer or cheek swab, sealed uncontaminated in a zip-lock bag. This also serves as a scent tracer for scent discriminating tracking dogs to follow.
  • Abduction Prevention Education provided to parents and children during the event or as a hand out included inside the ID package, increases public awareness about the risk of abduction or exploitation our children now face in today's society, and provides them with useful safety tips and prevention techniques.

Recent advances in technology have given rise to the geneartion of a variety of new identifying items and we at MasoniCHIP are dedicated to the development and proliferation of these techniques to help all engaged Masonic Jurisdictional programs to remain at the cutting edge of technology.

National Center for Missing and Exploited Children

In February of 2004, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the person of Peter Banks, Director of Outreach and Training, first appeared before the Conference NCMEC Logoof Grand Masters gathered in Washington D.C., giving a heart-felt presentation that asked all in attendance to consider start-up of a child identification program in their jurisdiction. This presentation led to the formation of our standing committee .... Masonic Child Identification Support Committee.

Over the past three years we have laid the ground work for collaboration between our two organiztions. The NCMEC is a multi-facided non-profit organization that utilizes "Technology" as the backbone and foundation of its activities to help protect our most vunerable members of society ... CHILDREN ... and aid law enforcement in their efforts to find and prosecute those who exploit them.

In 2007 Director Peter Banks asked to appear again before the Conference of Grand Masters, as we meet in Portland Oregon February 18-20, 2007. He present a "SPECIAL AWARD of COMMENDATION" to our Masonic CHIP Committee.

Much of the information we at MasoniCHIP expound to our member Grand Lodge Jurisdictions relative to the generation of identifying items and abduction awareness education, is gained by collaboration with the Natl Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

They publish numerous brochures and pamphlets that are available on their website "Free of Charge" . They encourage us to include such publications in every MasoniCHIP package we give to parents to take home for safe keeping.

This PREVENTION EDUCATION and "KNOW the RULES" safety tips are a vital and essential part of every MasoniCHIP Event. Several examples of the printed materials available at "NO COST" are:

NCMEC allows reprint of their publications acording to their "REPRINT POLICY ".
