Ancient Brethren Masonic Lodge At Upper Canada Village - Plus Special Discount Offer Inside
June 30, 2008
Dear Masons of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario,
As you may know, the living history museum of Upper Canada Village, near Morrisburg Ontario, is a recreated village of the 1860s opened in 1961 to preserve some of the buildings moved out of the path of the new St. Lawrence Seaway. Since then, we have incorporated several buildings from elsewhere in Eastern Ontario, most recently an old Orange Lodge from Kars has been restored and transformed into a Masonic Lodge in order to teach people about the history of the Masons and other fraternal orders, and their important contributions to the building of the country.
The turnout was tremendous and even the weather co-operated as we celebrated the grand opening of this new Masonic Brethren Lodge at Upper Canada Village on June 21st. We are so grateful to all of you who came and made it the very special event that it was. The South Glengarry Pipes and Drums led a procession of about 500 Masons that very impressively extended the entire length of the village. The Most Worshipful Master of the Grand Lodge, M.W. Bro. Allan J. Petrisor, officiated, along with many other dignitaries. I’ve included some photos from the event with this letter so you can see for yourselves how great it was.
In appreciation for all that your organization has done for the Village in funding this entire project, donating so many wonderful artifacts, and helping us to christen it in such a spectacular fashion, Upper Canada Village and the St. Lawrence Parks Commission would like to offer you some special discounts this year.
For those who didn’t get to the grand opening, or for those who want to visit the Village and the Lodge again, we would like to offer you and a guest our discounted group rate for the rest of the 2008 regular season (through October 5th). This special rate of $12.95 plus GST (regular rate $17.95 plus GST) is yours for the asking at the admission booth simply by showing proof of Masonic membership.
As well, this year at the new Ontario Power Generation Community Pavilion at Crysler Park Marina, (just west of Upper Canada Village on County Road 2) the St. Lawrence Parks Commission is proud to present the wonderful play A Seaway Story from July 10 to August 3. With high energy and humour, A Seaway Story tells the electrifying tale of the seaway’s creation in the 1950s. Again, the St. Lawrence Parks Commission would like to offer you and a guest the group rate of $15 plus GST (regular rate $20 plus GST). Seating is limited and tickets must be purchased in person to take advantage of the group rate. Discounted tickets are available at the Upper Canada Village admissions booth, the Crysler Park Marina, and our following partner:
Cornwall & Seaway Valley Tourism, 11 Water Street West, Cornwall, ON 613-938-4748
These two offers are just a small thank you for all your hard work, and your generosity in helping us to create this marvelous lasting legacy for future generations.
With great appreciation,
Dave Dobbie
Manager, Upper Canada Village
